Dr. Poornanand Goru is a trusted Orthopedist in Arilova, Visakhapatnam. He has helped numerous patients in his 17 years of experience as a Orthopedist. He has completed Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), MRCS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS. He is currently associated with Pinnacle Hospital in Arilova, Visakhapatnam.

 

I, Dr Poornanand Goru MBBS, DNB (Ortho), MRCS, FRCS (Tr & Ortho) did my medical graduation (MBBS) from Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, through NTR Health University.  I did my post graduation Orthopaedics (DNB Ortho) from Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore through National Board of Examinations.

 

I have moved to United Kingdom (UK) for higher studies. I did achieve membership examination (MRCS) through Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. I have done my higher surgical training in Trauma & Orthopaedics in Essex, UK where I have gained a wealth of experience and knowledge in all aspects of general trauma and joint replacement surgeries for hips and knees.  I have developed my surgical skills as Spinal surgeon at registrar level following which completed my FRCS (Tr& Ortho) examination.

 

I undertook my first spinal fellowship in Paediatric deformity in the World-renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital for sick children, London,UK. Followed by that I did second fellowship at AO spine reference centre at University Hospital Wales, Cardiff. The training in Cardiff was under Orthopaedic spinal surgeons and Neurosurgeons. Through this fellowship I have been exposed to the management of entire range of spinal disorders as well as most advanced spinal surgeries like cervical and lumbar artificial disc replacements, thoracolumbar instrumentation for scoliosis correction, complex cervical,  Occipito- cervical reconstruction, tumour resections and reconstructions.   I gained experience in all aspects of spinal surgery including Paediatric and Adult deformity. This included techniques of micro discectomy, micro decompression in lumbar spine and posterior lumbar fusion. Anterior cervical discectomy, fusion, disc replacement, and posterior neck surgery. Anterior approaches to thoraco lumbar spine and minimal invasive surgery like image guided pedicle screws and XLIF procedures. I  did have special interest in Paediatric deformity in adolescent Idiopathic scoliosis and neuromuscular scoliosis.

 

I have been appointed as Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with special interest in Spine at Warrington hospital, Cheshire, UK from 2013-2016.

Fellowship in Great Ormond Street Hospital for children, London

 

Great Ormond Street Hospital is the UK’s largest Paediatric hospital centre for spinal services and International Centre of Excellence in child health care.  One-year fellowship training in Spine unit at GOSH under Mr Tucker S, well renowned spine surgeon. Through this fellowship, I was exposed to entire range of paediatric deformities with special interest in congenital and adolescent idiopathic deformities as well as complex neuromuscular deformities. This fellowship has given broad insight to manage the complex spine problems along with multidisciplinary approach with other specialties.

 

Fellowship in University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff

 

After completing my fellowship training in paediatric spine deformity and fellowship exams in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery, I overtook an accredited spinal fellowship at the internationally recognized AO spine centre in University hospital of Wales, Cardiff. This further helped me to develop my proficiency in management of wide spectrum of spinal conditions including degenerative cervical and lumbar diseases, spinal trauma, tumours and deformity.
